Didecyldimethylammonium chloride is an antiseptic/disinfectant that is used in many biocidal applications. They cause disruption of intermolecular interactions and dissociation of lipid bilayers. They are broad spectrum bactericidal and fungicidal and can be used as disinfectant cleaner for linen, recommended for use in hospitals, hotels and industries. It is also used in gynaecology, surgery, ophthalmology, pediatrics, OT, and for the sterilization of surgical instruments, endoscopes and surface disinfection.

生产方法及用途
生产方法
主要分两条路线。 ①在碘化钾的存在下,氯代癸烷与甲胺反应,先制得双癸基甲基叔胺,再将双癸基甲基叔胺放在压力内,在水和异丙醇介质中,加热加压下同氯甲烷反应,制得氯化双癸基二甲基铵产品。反应式如下: ②在催化剂的存在下,由正癸醇与氢气和甲胺混合气体进行胺化反应,先制得双癸基甲基叔胺。再在压力釜中加入双癸基甲基叔胺、少量碳酸钠和适量异丙醇,用氮气置换空气后,升温至80～90℃,通入氯甲烷,压力0.3～0.5MPa,反应3～4h即得氯化双癸基二甲基铵产品。反应式如下:
用途
广泛用于油田杀菌、医药卫生、工业循环水杀菌灭藻、油田钻井等方面，其杀菌效果优于目前使用的最广的十二烷基二甲基苄基氯化铵。
