Methyl Cyanoacetate is often used as a nucleophile in the electrochemical oxidation of catechols. Methyl Cyanoacetate is also a reagent in the synthesis of Methyl 2-Amino-4-trifluoromethylthiophene-3-carboxylate; a compound used in the synthesis of DPP-IV inhibitors for treating type 2 diabetes.

其制备方法与氰乙酸乙酯制备方法类似,即氰乙酸、甲醇在硫酸存在下作用而得。NCCH2COOH+CH3OH[H2SO4]→NCCH2COOCH3+H2O
用途
1.是医药、颜料、农药等中间体。用于与甲醛缩合制成聚2-氰基丙烯酸甲酯经解聚而成a-氰基丙稀酸甲酯,再配成俗称的501瞬干胶。
